WOBURN, Mass., July 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- VAT has launched a new transfer valve, FlapVAT, expanding its product portfolio in the 'large transfer valve' series. The new product offers vacuum equipment manufacturers the ability to achieve what it claims is the best price/performance ratio available.

The attachment brushes for dusting, upholstery and bare floors should also be made of natural fibers. This is the most basic form of TAC. This can be done with sutures (usually a running suture) or with towel clips (Fig. 1). It is cheap, fast, and universally available but damages the skin and may be insufficient to prevent recurrent ACS. Fascial retraction is not prevented either, and towel clips may interfere with radiological investigations.THE NEED FOR TEMPORARY abdominal closure (TAC) is a logical consequence of abdominal decompression or prophylactic open abdomen treatment. Because open abdomen treatment (OAT) is increasingly used to prevent or treat abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS), TAC will be required more often, and everyone involved in the care of these patients should be aware of the indications, complications, and pitfalls in the management of the open abdomen with TAC techniques. More importantly, the different specialties involved in the care of the patient should have a common goal: early abdominal closure. Intensivists should be aware that intensive care unit (ICU) management may greatly affect the ability to close the abdomen early, and they should continue to use an integrated approach to intra-abdominal hypertension (IAH) even after abdominal decompression. Surgeons should realize that early closure is feasible and that TAC techniques exist that expedite early abdominal closure. In this article, we provide an overview of the currently available and ancillary strategies for TAC and how these can be integrated in the ICU care of the patient. We all certainly hope these ideas have helped you.Third-Generation Temporary Abdominal Closure: Negative Pressure Therapy
